In ancient Egypt, the sun's warmth and rays were worshipped for their life-giving and healing properties. In Heliopolis \u2013 the city of the sun \u2013 it wasn't just spirituality, but also early forms of healing, that were linked to light. And actually, the ancient Egyptians weren't entirely wrong.

Jumping to the late 1800s, we encounter the Danish physician Niels Finsen, who became world-renowned and received the Nobel Prize in 1903 for his groundbreaking research into the healing effects of light. Niels Finsen discovered that UV light from special lamps could treat the severe skin disease Lupus Vulgaris, which affected tuberculosis patients. It was the first time artificial light was recognized as a form of medical treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
More than half a century later \u2013 in 1960 \u2013 Theodore Maiman invented the world's first functioning ruby laser. This sparked a new wave of research, including by the Hungarian physician Endre Mester, who began experimenting with the laser's effect on skin and healing. And this is where the unexpected happened: Mester discovered that mice treated with low-energy laser not only avoided damage; they experienced faster wound healing and better hair growth than those who did not receive treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That was the beginning of what we today know as PhotoBioModulation (PBM). A gentle, light-based treatment method that uses specific wavelengths to stimulate the body's own skin cells and immune cells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since the development of efficient LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) in the 1990s, lasers have largely been replaced in PBM. Today most PBM lamps, facial masks, and related devices rely on LED technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
